David Adlam - more about me
![]()
As a musician, working on a freelance basis, I am engaged in several activities. I work as a clarinettist, conductor, composer, arranger, and examiner for Trinity-Guildhall. I call this my portfolio career. It is always stimulating, with constant changes in routine. After so many years teaching in the classroom, I enjoy not being ruled by a bell. I also enjoy the fact that I can work at something until I am satisfied with it, rather than always having the spectre of a deadline hanging over me.
I thought this was a good place to show a small photo of my two, talented children. Happily they are both musical and highly motivated, successful young adults... Emily plays Violin. Jonathan plays Cello . Here we all are at my mothers 80th birthday celebration in 2006. Jonathan is now living with his mother in England, while Emily is completing her final year of school at Auckland Diocesan School for Girls.
Orchestra administrator
From the beginning of 2006, I have been working as artistic advisor for the Tauranga Performing Arts Trust, bringing high quality chamber music and chamber orchestra concerts to the Bay of Plenty and Waikato regions of New Zealand. In the last three years we have performed orchestral concerts as the Bay Classic Soloists and smaller group concerts as the wind chamber group Eklekktika.Examiner for Trinity-Guildhall (London)
Beginining in 2008, I am an examiner for Trinity-Guildhall (London). This is an exciting position that puts me right into the community in all parts of the world, representing one of the great music examination boards in the world. It has been a rigorous training course and a steep learning curve, but I have enjoyed the challenge and my first year as a fully-fledged examiner. As I have often said, it is nice to be an easy marker, easy to be a hard marker and hard to be a fair marker.
